This was the front line during the battle of Germantown with
 British Hessian forces on the German Township side of the creek 
and the American insurgents on the Roxbourgh Township side 
(photo from Roxbourgh side) 
David Rittenhouse later became the Director of the US Mint
and is buried under a sundial near the homestead.
