I sail the Delaware Bay; New Jersey and Delaware and the Delaware River; Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Sailing on the river requires careful attention to the tidal currents and attention to variable strong gusting winds.

Sailing on he Delaware Bay also requires attention to the strong tidal current, choppy water and not infrequent short period square waves that develop when wind is in opposition to tidal current. The Bay also experiences rapid moving summer thunder storms that may also produce straight line wind fronts.

Sailing the ocean off the New Jersey shore in a 20ft boat requires close attention to current and developing weather systems, tidal current flows and is something that I do rarely. An underpowered 20ft sailboat will have at the most a 1 hour time slot at slack tide to safely enter an inlet, assuming light winds.

Another factor for sailing my home waters is that this area is used heavily by commercial shipping to large port facilities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, in addition to recreational fish and commercial fish boats.

Roger post a photograph of your boat or a link to your site.
